When beginning the process of creating a new piece, I never know what it’s going to turn into. There was a painting that I did a few years back that was abstract, circular, and blue. I wanted to combine that idea with the calming, chaotic idea of the darkness into the light. My initial intention was a side by side. But upon completion the art told me something different. From this angle it looks as if the “vortex” is taking in the calm, the light, the chaos, the void.
Canvas is prepped with gesso, then the pattern is sketched out. I then lay down the base line work. Next, I put down the base colors in the color blocking. Then lay down the leafing. Finally, I add the depth to the vortexes, by adding extra layers and shading. Then finish the sinewy designs with their shading and highlights. Finishing touchups and definition is then added. The painting is completed with a matte varnish.
Then signed, dated, and numbered on the back. Each painting is wired for hanging.
